60-Minute | Yin Yoga | Stillness-Based, Long-Held Postures | In-Studio
Stillness Within: Yin Yoga for Deep Release is an invitation to slow down, turn inward, and experience the transformative power of stillness.
Unlike more dynamic styles of yoga that primarily target muscles, Yin Yoga focuses on the body's deeper connective tissues, including fascia, ligaments, tendons, and joint capsules. Through long-held, passive postures, gentle stress is applied to these tissues, helping to maintain mobility, support joint health, improve hydration within the fascial system, and encourage greater ease of movement throughout the body.
This practice is guided by the Three Tattvas of Yin Yoga:
Find your appropriate edge where sensation is present but not overwhelming.
Become still in body, breath, and mind.
Hold the posture for time, allowing the body to respond gradually and naturally.
As the body settles into stillness, attention shifts inward. Rather than striving, fixing, or achieving, students are invited to observe sensations, thoughts, and breath with curiosity and awareness. Over time, this practice can cultivate patience, resilience, mindfulness, and a greater capacity to be present with what is.
In traditional Chinese philosophy, Yin and Yang represent complementary forces. Yang energy is active, warming, and outwardly focused. Yin energy is quiet, cooling, and inwardly focused. Modern life often asks us to operate in a constant state of Yang through schedules, screens, responsibilities, and endless activity. Yin Yoga provides a valuable counterbalance, offering an opportunity to rest, restore, and reconnect.
Throughout class, each long-held posture is followed by a period of rebound, sometimes called a counterpose. These moments of rest are an essential part of the practice, allowing students to notice the effects of each shape, integrate sensation, and experience the body's natural response before moving on.
This practice may help:
Improve mobility and joint health
Support the health and resilience of fascia and connective tissues
Reduce physical tension and stiffness
Encourage nervous system regulation
Increase body awareness and mindfulness
Develop patience and mental clarity
Create balance for active lifestyles and vigorous exercise routines
Cultivate stillness in body, breath, and mind
This class is especially supportive for students experiencing stress, overstimulation, fatigue, stiffness, or a sense of disconnection from their body. It offers a structured pause in a culture that often prioritizes constant doing.
A space to pause, breathe, and settle inward.
