grand opening
Dear friends,
It seems like we’re all experiencing a lot of change in our lives at the moment. Everyone I talk to seems to be undergoing a transition of some sort and this can be unsettling.
Outside, there are changes of colour, light and temperature as nature delivers her harvest and readies for the winter and yet, sometimes, we get disconnected from the seasons as our heating and air conditioning smooth out our experience of the world. That makes now a great time for a walk in nature to reconnect, ground ourselves and find our way back into being part of a whole living system.
As for changes in our own lives, whether we meet them with joy or trepidation, change is often uncomfortable. To help, perhaps you could make some time to consciously breathe and slow down for a few minutes today. Notice how it makes you feel and consider making it a daily practice if you feel that it helps. Even just two minutes of being present to your breath can help with the rest of the day.
Good luck with the changes in your life, I hope that they will open up opportunities you didn’t even think possible.
Our Fall schedule is up and running so now it’s time to turn our attention to the workshops and special events we have coming up. See details of our current offerings below. Each one has been crafted by a teacher who is passionate about the subject.
I’d also like to share an article I wrote a while ago forelephantjournal.com Five Reasons Why I’m Not Good Enough to Be Your Yoga Teacher. I hope that you enjoy it.
If you have any questions drop us an email or call us on (905) 852-6600. See you on a mat soon!
With love and thanks,
jacquelyn

Family and Schedule News
Many congratulations to our own dear Drew Hume who married Duncan, the love of his life, at the weekend. We love you both and wish you every happiness.

From this week Michelle Gibson will be taking over the Saturday morning Power Yoga class. Michelle is a wonderful enthusiastic teacher and we wish her every success in sharing her practice. You can read more about Michelle in her bio but the chances are good that you’ve met her at Natalie’s classes over the last few weeks.

Many thanks to Natalie for all the Saturday classes she’s given us. Natalie will continue to teach on Thursday nights.

Workshops and Special Events

We are thrilled to offer the following workshops over the coming months. Stay tuned for additions to the schedule.

Friday nights:

Reiki and Restore with Susan: 19th October, 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm

Join Susan for an evening of Reiki and Restorative Yoga. Restorative Yoga is a practice of complete relaxation in which props are used to help support the body. This is a practice where we learn to let go. There is no holding of poses, no striving or trying, just the opportunity to surrender to a deeper sense of relaxation. Reiki is a Japanese technique which can be used to help with stress release, relaxation and healing. It is a simple, natural and safe method of healing that can be used on anyone. Together these two practices will offer you the ultimate relaxation experience.

Yoga for Fertility with Susan: 9th November, 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm

During times of infertility, women can experience disappointment, hurt, fear and sadness. This can lead to stress therefore creating a negative space in which to create a baby. You are not alone and this workshop will allow you to connect with other women that are experiencing the challenges that you are facing. Yoga for Fertility is an opportunity to restore balance in your body and mind. This practice will help you to balance hormones, find relaxation, acceptance and help you to open your heart in order for you to receive all possibilities!

Restorative Yoga By Candlelight with Susan: 23rd November, 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm

Join Susan for an evening of Restorative Yoga by Candlelight. Restorative Yoga is a very gentle practice where props are used to support each posture to help enhance your overall relaxation response. Give yourself the gift of relaxation and let go of the demands of this busy holiday season.

Holiday Yoga Nidra with Susan: 7th December, 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm

This holiday season, join Susan for an evening of Yoga Nidra. Yoga Nidra (Yogic Sleep) is a guided mediation and is one of the deepest of all mediations leading to supreme deep relaxation. It is said that for every 30 minutes of Yoga Nidra practice is equivalent to 3 hours of deep sleep. In this workshop, you will be guided through a mediation while you are lying down on your back comfortably with the support of props if needed to enhance the relaxation response. This practice will rejuvenate your body and mind and help you to prepare for the holiday buzz that comes at this time of year.

Sunday afternoons:

Our new monthly Sunday afternoon workshops with guest teacher Bette Hodgkins will begin in October.
Yoga for Stress with Bette: 21st October, 1 – 2.30 pm

Do you ever feel like you are caught on a treadmill? That life is spinning out of control and your stress levels are climbing higher and higher with no end in sight? This workshop will share ten yoga techniques for lowering your stress levels by helping you step off the treadmill of endless mind chatter. We will share yoga postures, breathing techniques and meditation styles that will positively influence your own ability to de-stress, relax, open your heart and clear your mind. Re-discover that your life can be “AHHHHH-some”!

Friends On the Path Meditation Sangha

The Friends on the Path meditation sangha (community) is based on the ‘Engaged Buddhism’ teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh (Thay), Buddhist monk and Zen Master. Join us to establish or to support your mindfulness practices both on and off the cushion.

The sangha will meet on the third Sunday of each month between 10.30 am and noon. Time will be given to sitting practice, to mindful discussion and to enjoying recordings of dharma talks from Thay.

No meditation experience or knowledge of Buddhism is necessary. The group exists simply to provide support for our individual efforts to live mindfully.

This is a free group although you are welcome to bring a donation for the Uxbridge Food Bank if you feel moved to do so. Feel free to bring your own cushion / bench or to use our bolsters.

Sunday 21st October, 10.30 am – noon.
