Presence In Our Practice by Michelle
Are you present?
In yoga, we talk a lot about presence and being fully aware of what we are doing, how it feels in our bodies and if there are any thoughts or emotions that come up.
But why is this so important?
This is important in our yoga practice because it keeps us safe and prevents injury. When we take the cues from our bodies it becomes almost impossible to hurt ourselves. Practicing presence on the yoga mat also makes it possible to become more aware in our day to day lives.
What does this mean and what does it look like?
It can mean many different things to different people.
For me it means more freedom – we can stop worrying about the future and fully enjoy what is unfolding in front of us. We can start to notice the small things; the sights, sounds, and smells that fill our days.
