It’s cold outside but the studio is cosy and warm ready for you and your practice.
I hope that everyone stayed safe during the big storm. Proof again that whatever we like to pretend, nature is the one with all the power. 🙂

We All Shine On…
It’s close to Valentine’s Day and time to return to one of my favourite themes: allowing your light to shine.
I’m sure I’m not alone in holding back. We all have our reasons, the words of caution that sound in our heads whenever we consider putting ourselves forward.
One great way to get in touch with our barriers is to notice when we are holding back and ask this question,
What’s the worst that can happen?
For most of us the honest is answer can be boiled down to fear of rejection. Whether this manifests as fear of not being good enough, fear of being laughed at, fear of appearing foolish, fear of failure, fear of success, the main reason we don’t allow our light to shine is that we’re afraid that we’ll stand out, in the wrong way.
How do we get past this? Here are a few points to remember that might help:
1. Remember that deep down almost all of us are experiencing the same fear. You are not alone.
2. Remember that just about everyone wants you to succeed. You have support you don’t even know is there.
3. Remember that if you’re brave and push on anyway you’ll have made a huge step towards overcoming that fear the next time. It will never be this hard again.
4. Remember how good you’ll feel when you succeed or at least try. This is a new and exciting road who knows where it will go.
5. Remember that your example makes it easier for others to overcome their fears. Be a role model to your friends, your children, your partner and the world. Be the change.
Join me in class to fearlessly open your heart and let your light shine.
See you on a mat.
Love, Jacquelyn (taken from my blog for this week)

First Anniversary Celebrations
Incredibly we are approaching our first anniversary. This year has been an amazing ride and I’m so proud of all of us. I’m proud of the community we have built together, of the students who come to share their time with us and the teachers who have so much passion and compassion to share.
I want to invite you all to come along on Sunday 14th April when we’ll be holding an open afternoon 1 – 4 pm to celebrate our achievements so far.
Save the date and stand by for details of a great afternoon of free offerings from our amazing teachers.
Love and thanks for all your support, Jacquelyn xxx
Starting in March we’ll be introducing a Yoga Challenge. This is not a competition but an opportunity to commit to yourself.
Each month we’ll commit to our practice, e.g. once, twice, three, etc times per week. We might choose to make our intention or dedication public or keep it private, e.g. better health, love, peace, etc.
Then, as the month goes on, we can monitor how we’re doing against our commitment to ourselves.
Full details will be announced in class at the beginning of March.
We appreciate your help in spreading the word about our offerings, so much so that we have introduced a referral scheme.
If you, an existing student, refer a ‘new to the studio’ friend who signs up for our Beginner Yoga series we will give you a free drop in class to say
Share the practice you love.
Friends On the Path Meditation Sangha
The Friends on the Path meditation sangha (community) is based on the ‘Engaged Buddhism’ teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh (Thay), Buddhist monk and Zen Master. Join us to establish or to support your mindfulness practices both on and off the cushion.
The sangha will meet on the third Sunday of each month between 10.45 am and noon. Time will be given to sitting practice, to mindful discussion and to enjoying recordings of dharma talks from Thay.
No meditation experience or knowledge of Buddhism is necessary. The group exists simply to provide support for our individual efforts to live mindfully.
This is a free group although you are welcome to bring a donation for the Uxbridge Food Bank if you feel moved to do so. Feel free to bring your own cushion / bench or to use our bolsters.
Next Sangha: Sunday 17th February, 10.45 am – noon.

Pose of the Month
This month we’re focussing on Sphinx pose. Check out this feature on Yoga Journal
to find out more.
These sound amazing. Great for parties or for a fun, but healthy, dinner with the family.
Makes 8 pizzettas.
2 medium leeks
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, or as needed
1 large onion, thinly sliced
1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
1 pound homemade or purchased whole wheat pizza dough, at room temperature
3/4 cup crumbled feta cheese
1/2 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
1. Trim and discard the root ends and the tough dark-green tops of the leeks. Cut the leeks in half lengthwise, and rinse well to remove the dirt between layers. Drain and thinly slice the leeks crosswise.
2. Set a large frying pan over medium-high heat. When the pan is hot, add 2 tablespoons of the oil followed by the leeks, onions, and salt. Stir often until the onions begin to brown, 10 to 15 minutes. Let cool.
3. Preheat oven to 450-degrees. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. On a floured board, shape each portion of the dough into a round. Coat each portion lightly with flour. Roll and flatten each piece into a 1/4-inch-thick round, 4 to 5 inches wide.
4. Transfer the rounds to two oiled baking sheets, placing the rounds at least 1 inch apart. If the rounds shrink, re-stretch them until they are again 4 to 5 inches wide. Brush the surfaces lightly with remaining olive oil.
5. Distribute equal portions of the leek-onion mixture over each round of dough to within about 1/2 inch of the edge. Top each round evenly with feta cheese and walnuts. Sprinkle lightly with pepper.
6. Bake in preheated oven until the crust is golden brown and firm on bottom, 12 to 15 minutes. If using one oven, rotate baking sheets halfway through baking time. Slide pizzas off pans onto a board or plates, and serve hot.
