Looking Back, Looking Forward by Jacquelyn
Time for a wee bit of context?
We often talk about presence. How the past is gone, the future is not yet here and all that matters is now. That teaching has served me well, when I remember to apply it.
This week though I’m going to encourage you to bring a little bit of context into your practice and your life. Take a mindful look back at last year or five years ago and see what’s changed for you. Are you where you thought you’d be? Chances are that you could never have foreseen your current life back then.
Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans ~ John Lennon
This exercise in looking back, without getting dragged back there, can be a source of inspiration and comfort. When I look back five years, I see a much less happy and much less confident version of myself. It gives me the chance to feel gratitude for all the positive changes that have occurred. Changes that, at the time, seemed impossible.
Then I can let my mind wander forward and see what might be. I can feel great excitement about what could be in the future. I don’t want to get too pulled away from now but isn’t it fun to think about the potential the future holds? Maybe handstand press is possible after all.
Bring your enquiring mind to class this week. Let’s see what changes we’ve noticed in our practice over the weeks, months or years and get excited about what’s to come.
See you on a mat.
