Ever wondered if yoga is for you?
I can’t count the number of times that someone has told me that they’re ‘not flexible enough’ for yoga. We all seem to have gotten the idea that we need to be good at something before we even try it. That’s the opposite of what yoga is all about.
Yoga is about accepting ourselves; the flexible bits and the not so flexible bits, the strong bits and the not so strong bits. It’s about accepting ourselves for the age that we are and loving the things we can do rather than worrying about the things we can’t.
That’s real yoga!
Being able to put your foot behind your head might be a neat party trick but it’s not the purpose of what we’re doing here. We are learning to love ourselves. We are learning to harmonize our body and mind so that we can find peace and acceptance. Couldn’t we all use a little more self acceptance?
So the next time you think about doing a yoga class then hold back because you think you’re too old / too inflexible / too weak or whatever other reason you come up with, think again. Yoga is flexible even if you’re not. Whether you need a vigorous sweaty practice, a gentle stretch or simply meditation and breathing, yoga has something for you.
My schedule for this week is a reminder to me of how broad a discipline yoga can be. In addition to my regular classes, I’m also holding a Partner Yoga workshop and a Yoga for Kids workshop. These offerings give me great joy as I get the opportunity to work with my husband for one of them and my son for the other. This reminds me of another important aspect of yoga, union. Coming together to practice and accept each other as we are now.

Partner Yoga ~ Friday at 7.30 pm
Join us for an evening of partner yoga. Working together we’ll practice yoga (union) through cooperation and communication. Work with your friend, relative or life partner and enjoy an evening of relaxing and fun practice. This is not acro yoga, just a fun practice that should be accessible to all with modifications where required. ($30 plus HST per couple.)
9.15 am Flow Yoga ~ Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
6.15 pm Flow Yoga ~ Wednesday
9.15 am Gentle Yoga ~ Sunday
11.00 am Yoga for Kids ~ Sunday
