Facing Challenges by Jacquelyn
Can yoga help you face your challenges and build your dreams?
I know for sure it’s helped me with mine. The last few years have not been without challenges, if anything they’ve been the most challenging years of my life. I’ve been out of my comfort zone so often I’ve almost reached the point that I don’t know where it is anymore. Almost!
This reaching has brought me more opportunities and joy than ever before. I’ve done things I never thought possible and I’m happier than I ever thought I could be.
The flip side of that coin is that I’ve faced challenges I’d never anticipated. Sometimes stepping outside of your comfort zone will create issues that feel bigger than you. Situations that can feel overwhelming.
For me, that can mean that I come down hard. I might even feel like I can’t get back up. It can feel like the solid ground I thought I had below my feet is gone and suddenly I’m questioning the validity and meaning of everything I’ve done. Self doubt is my very close acquaintance. It can help me stay ‘realistic’ but it can also steal all the sunshine from my life.
Fortunately, the solid ground isn’t really gone. We don’t get to where we are by accident or all of a sudden. Each step was brave and incremental and it had solid ground beneath it. For me, that solid ground is my practice and when times are tough I’m never more grateful for it.
Does that mean that a hole doesn’t open up under my feet occasionally or that I don’t find new challenges difficult? Of course not. But what it does mean is that I can return to my practice and find solidity and strength there.
