Conscious Choices by Jacquelyn
Are you living consciously or are you a ‘victim’ of your patterns and past?
I always think it’s interesting that the holidays, a time of year associated with traditions and nostalgia, are immediately followed by New Year which is all about fresh starts and new choices.
We’ll come back to the fresh starts and New Year Intentions closer to the time but for now let’s think about traditions or, as you might also know them, habits and patterns.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with traditions, some of them are awesome and help bind us together in a world that can pull us apart with it’s pace. I love to sit down and watch the same Christmas films with my family every year. We are all a little, or a lot, changed by the passing of the year but the tradition remains the same and there is comfort in that.
There are, however, some traditions that don’t sit so comfortably, some patterns that we fall into that make us unhappy. Roads we have already travelled that lead us to places we no longer want to visit. My challenge to you, if you’d like to accept it, is to live through the next few weeks consciously. Choose traditions that you want to keep and discard the others.
Maybe you’ll choose to let the details go and focus on being present to your loved ones. Maybe you’ll choose not to rise to Great Aunt Belinda’s bait the way you have every other year. Or, maybe you’ll choose to tell your loved ones that you love them, when you might otherwise have thought that it didn’t need said.
Whatever you decide to do, enjoy your traditions, your celebrations and your friends and family but do it with your eyes open and your heart fully engaged.
In my classes this week we’ll be identifying our patterns, our habits and our unconscious choices and deciding what to keep and what to discard. Come along, loosen your hips and open your eyes.
